Sports Fish Varieties

The Yucatan Peninsula offers unbeatable vacation options and the fishing waters are famous worldwide! Peak fishing season runs from early March through early July when Sailfish and Marlin are migrating through the canal. During these months the Puerto Aventuras marina fills up with yachts from several states and countries with one thing in mind- SAILFISH. Mucho, many SAILFISH. What this means is multiple shots at sailfish per day (15 - 20 is not at all unusual.) Every year there are double digit grand slams (a sailfish, white and blue marlin in one day) and sometimes there are double grand slams (two slams in one day) and super grand slams (add a swordfish.) Other abundant fish are: wahoo, dorado, tuna, kingfish, and barracuda. Best of all - we set our baits right as we exit the marina! No travel time. We have caught sails so close we have released them in the marina.

Types of Fishing Charters

Puerto Aventuras has been featured in most saltwater fishing publications- Marlin, Saltwater Sportsman, Sportfishing as well as several times on ESPN. What most people do not know is that the off season fishing is just as great! A FEATURE SHOW ON ESPN presented Capt. Rick' s solely on Wahoo fishing in December. That day, we caught 8 wahoo and two tuna including four wahoo on at the same time. From August through February, we average 8 Sailfish in a half day trip - that is more than most fishing destinations during peak season. So you do not want to catch, but you do want to enjoy the Caribbean? Well, we offer numerous pleasure trips to several desolate beaches and snorkel areas. Yucatan happens to have the second longest coral reef in the world!!! We can also combine trips and tailor it to your likes - snorkel, beaches, and fishing.

Our Fleet of Fishing Boats

Capt. Rick's Sportfishing has twelve boats available from a 38' Hattaras to a 23' SeaCraft. The captains are English speaking and have at least 10 years experience fishing these grounds. All the fishing is done trolling dead baits using 20 to 30 lb. standup Shimano or Penn gear, although a fighting chair will be provided upon request. Two of our Captains are also experts at flyfishing, in which case you must provide your own gear. Of course, all billfish are released.
